Software Requirements

The following software is required to complete the procedures in this comptia a+ certification practice test:
A copy of the Windows Server 2003 installation CD-ROM (A 180-day evaluation edition of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition is included with this training kit.)
Setup installs Windows files and displays messages about the benefits of using Windows Server 2003. On the Networking Settings page, ensure that Typical Settings is selected and then click Next.
On the Workgroup Or Computer Domain page, ensure that No, This Computer Is Not On a Network Or Is On A Network Without A Domain is selected and that the
workgroup name is WORKGROUP, and then click Next.

Remove the Windows Server 2003 installation CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive.
Having more than one domain controller in a domain provides fault tolerance. If one domain controller is offline, another domain controller can provide all
required functions, such as recording changes to Active Directory.
Domain controllers manage all aspects of users' A plus benefits domain interaction, such as locating Active Directoiy objects and validating user logon attempts.
As an administrator, you must place domain controllers in sites to reflect your organization's physical structure and optimize replication and authentication. See Lesson 3, "Planning the Active Directory Infrastructure Design," to learn the basics of domain controller placement. See Chapter 2, "Installing and Configuring Active Directory," for details about creating domain controllers.
The following conventions are used throughout this book.
Characters or commands that you type appear in bold type.
Italic in syntax statements indicates placeholders for variable information. Italic is also used for book titles.
Names of files and folders appear in Title caps, except when you are to type them directly. Unless otherwise indicated, you can use all lowercase letters when you type a file name in a dialog box or at a command prompt.
File name extensions appear in all lowercase.
Acronyms appear in all uppercase.
Monospace type represents code samples, examples of screen text, or entries that you might type at a command prompt or in initialization files.
Square brackets [ ] are used in syntax statements to enclose optional items. For example, [filename] in command syntax indicates that you can choose to type a file name with the command. Type only the information within the brackets, not the brackets themselves.
